37: HGTV's Leanne Ford- Don't Be Afraid to Fail

Listen Later

Leanne Ford is an interior designer who gained national recognition after redesigning an old 1907 PA Schoolhouse. Her work has been published in: GQ, New York Times, Refinery 29, Country Living, Elle Decor, Martha Stewart, Better Home and Gardens and many others.

She is also the star, along with her brother, Steve, of HGTV's Restored by the Fords. It involves taking old school buildings and making them pretty dope- to put in "Deke" terms.

I met Leanne through one of my good friends, Lydia, at the Ace Hotel for the premiere show of season 1. Going to the show was kind of a spur of the moment thing as I didn't know about it till the day of a few hours before.

Actually, I don't even know if I was supposed to know about the premiere, but my buddy Pete Rostosky (episode 1) told me about it. So, I asked his daughter Lydia and she said it was cool.

So I went down. I wanted to meet Leanne and see if she'd be down to do the podcast... And of course to drink a couple beers and have a good time.

Both got accomplished and here's the episode. Hope you enjoy!

Sidenote: We recorded at Leanne's famed old schoolhouse home and the place definitely lived up to the hype. It was sick and thanks to Leanne for making the time.

Here's a few talking points of our conversation:

  • Why Ohio U was a top 5 best decision
  • The importance of saying "Yes"
  • Having confidence in what you do
  • Avoiding Trends/ Focusing on Classic
  • Thinking Creative
  • HGTV Opportunity

We also discussed Man Code toward the end and Leanne mentioned an article she wrote for GQ that could be of good use for us guys. Here it is – https://www.gq.com/gallery/eight-bachelor-pad-items-host
