Parents of the Year

39. How do we teach our kids balance?

Listen Later

Get up, rush to get ready for the day, go to a full day of school, navigate friendship fires, write some tests, rush home to get ready for afterschool activities while wolfing down a bite of something – anything  - madly scramble homework in the car, get home, and fall into bed exhausted. Wake up and do it again tomorrow. While this might seem extreme so many kids have nonstop schedules. And, as they get older, some have to squeeze in work somewhere in there.

While kids thrive with busy schedules, there is such a thing as too much. There needs to be a balance of hard work, busy days, and time to simply do nothing. This is an important lesson parents need to help their kids learn.

While Caroline says there’s no such thing as balance (explaining the need to be 100% “in it,” whatever “it” may happen to be from one moment to the next, she and Andrew discuss how to teach kids to balance all the things in their life.

A well-balanced life means you actually get to enjoy it as you live it.
