Welcome to Part I of our residency series! Maggie, Carley, and Cara and joined today by Dr. Joe DeHope and Dr. Dylan Bassett to discuss their post-residency experiences and opportunities. The five friends discuss many topics related to professional life post-residency and offer advice to those considering residency training.

Meet our guests:

Joe DeHope, PT, DPT, MS, OCS, CSCS

Joe DeHope completed his master’s degree in Sport Psychology and Motor Behavior from the University of Tennessee in 2013, Doctorate of Physical Therapy from South College (Knoxville, TN) in 2019, and Orthopedic Residency from Creighton University (Omaha, NE) in 2020. Joe received his Orthopedic Clinical Specialty in the spring of 2021. He currently serves as the embedded physical therapist for an Air Force Special Warfare unit in Colorado Springs as a civilian contractor. Joe also serves as adjunct faculty for the South College DPT program. With a background in strength and conditioning, Joe's passion lies in attempting to create an ideal environment for both tissue adaptation and skill development (whether rehabilitative or performance based) through optimal loading and intentional coaching cues to maximize motor learning.

Dylan Bassett, PT, DPT, OCS, CSCS

Dylan Bassett received his Doctorate of Physical Therapy from the University of Kansas Medical Center in Kansas City in 2019. He then went on to complete orthopedic residency at Creighton University and received his Orthopedic Clinical Specialty in the spring of 2021. Following completion of residency, Dylan moved back to Kansas City where he now practices at a hospital-based outpatient clinic and teaches anatomy within the DPT program at the University of Kansas Medical Center. Outside of the clinic, Dylan enjoys learning handyman work around his house and building his own home gym.
