Henry K. H. Wang discusses the importance of respect and inclusiveness, particularly in the context of diversity. Henry emphasizes the value of active listening and understanding different perspectives, noting that privilege can be a blind spot. The discussion highlights the shift from a dog-eat-dog mentality to one of collaboration, where win-win solutions are sought.
Henry's experience with international negotiations and his work with the G20 and B20 organizations underscore the significance of global cooperation for a more peaceful world. The conversation also touches on the personal growth that comes with age and self-awareness.
Henry K. H. Wang: “Respect for others is very important. I am a passionate believer in Diversity, Equity, Inclusion, and Belonging (DEIB). When I was young and in school, and eventually a junior executive, it was normal, at that time, to be bullied.
This was supposed to be character building to prepare you for the future.
Over the years, I was lucky to be working for some very good companies who believed in the value of diversity and inclusiveness. I was able to work around the world with some leading people from different countries who spoke different languages. This was a great way for me to really learn to respect others. The most important thing I learned was active listening.
Over the years, I've tended to speak less and listen more.”
