Today I speak with Ryan O'Mahoney. Ryan is the Managing Director of 2U short courses that present themselves to the world through the brand of GetSmarter. 2U acquired GetSmarter in 2017 which coincides with my reluctant exiting of the business to begin new adventures here in Melbourne, Australia.

Ryan holds a MA in economics and management from Oxford, an honours in accounting from the University of Stellenbosch and has enrolled in several executive short courses offered through GetSmarter including a Fintech program from MIT, a digital transformation program from MIT Sloan and data analysis from LSE. Besides being incredibly smart, Ryan is a terrific storyteller and a thoughtful and inspiring leader.

Ryan and I chat about the GetSmarter magic, how to lead high-growth businesses and why GetSmarter now enjoys a portfolio of over 150 courses, servicing more than 150,000 students per annum from 150 countries ... did I mention that Ryan enjoys numbers?

Anyway, Ryan is a wonderful man, a terrific father to 2 young children and an inspiring leader to his team of 700 plus passionate and dedicated professionals stationed in Cape Town, South Africa.

Ryan's impact at GetSmarter cannot be underestimated - personally I attribute much of the businesses success to him, notwithstanding of course the incredible vision of its founding brothers, Rob and Sam Paddock.
