The football state championships were held last week in Starkville. Tupelo's repeat bid in Class 7A was foiled by a Hail Mary (1:18), while West Point was denied a third straight title by Brookhaven (6:48). However, Calhoun City won the 1A title (8:05), while East Webster took the 2A crown (9:39).
On the hardwood, Booneville's girls opened region play with a win over Belmont (11:29), while Biggersville knocked off Thrasher in a rematch of last year's 1A title game (12:57).
