Stephan Kesting is a lifelong martial artist, outdoor expeditionary, and educator. Stephan is a Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu black belt with more than 30 years of training across multiple martial arts systems, he is also a veteran firefighter of over 25 years and a recipient of the Canadian National Medal for Bravery. He is the founder of Grapplearts.com and host of The Strenuous Life podcast, and his latest book, Perseverance: Life and Death in the Subarctic, documents a 1,000-mile solo canoe journey through northern Canada to Hudson Bay, an expedition completed while managing significant health challenges, including a kidney transplant and major orthopedic recoveries.
