43. Managing Board & Volunteers for a Successful Year End Giving Campaign with Debbie DiVirgilio

Listen Later

This year while planning my year end fundraising training workshop, I had multiple people mention they wanted to learn more about steering their teams. they said they often feel they're on a team of one, meaning all by themselves trying to get it done.

I've managed a lot of people since starting my business in 2005, but they were all were paid employees, and for a reason: it's a lot easier to manage people who depend on you to make a living than board members or volunteers, who don't get paid for their services.

I called upon Debbie DiVirgilio for outside expertise. Debbie helps nonprofit organizations with broken boards patch them back together so they can be a cohesive unit that supports you once again.

In this episode, she explains to us:

  • The role your board members and volunteers should play in your year-end fundraiser.
  • How to reset their expectations to get the most out of your efforts.
  • Ways to deal with board members and volunteers who aren't comfortable asking for money.
  • How to avoid getting stuck in perpetual planning mode from the get-go, and how to get unstuck if you do find yourself there.
