How many times have I proclaimed my love for MLB in this space over the years? Too many to count, and I’ve told and retold the story of how my grandparents Ross and Barbara instilled a love for the SF Giants in me from the tender age of 5. But there’s something happening here with baseball, there’s something wrong, and I know it’s not just me who is noticing. Here we are 100 games into the season, yet from Opening Day the NBA has grabbed all the headlines and hot takes. And now that the Summer of 2019 Free Agent/Draft/Trade Extravaganza has wrapped up, the NFL training camps are open and football has started to take over. And there are some great stories in MLB, despite the Yankees and Dodgers being the most boring of frontrunners, like the Rays’ creative use of their bullpen helping to revitalize a moribund franchise, or the Twins and Braves resurgence, and hell, even my Giants are back from the dead. Christian Yelich and Cody Bellinger are having dueling historic seasons, there’s a whole crop of young talent, but on the national stage, MLB just doesn’t seem to ring bells. There’s a whole lot to unpack there, but it’s slow summer in the sports world so we’ve got plenty of time to try to make some sense of it all. So sit back, the Summer of 2019 Free Agent Extravaganza is over, the NFL season is approaching, MLB has the spotlight and we're breaking down how it’s all unfolding, next on the Roundup Podcast, so let's get rolling. . .
