Valentine’s Day is coming up, so in this episode we’re talking about dating and drinking—and how to date when you’re sober or sober-curious.

If you’re on the dating apps, going on first or second dates, or getting to know someone new, alcohol can feel like part of the deal: a drink to calm your nerves, make conversation easier, or help you feel more confident.

But what if you don’t want to drink—or you’re trying to drink less?

In this episode, I talk about how to navigate early dating without relying on alcohol, including:

  • whether (and when) to tell people you’re not drinking;
  • planning dates that don’t revolve around drinking;
  • setting boundaries around your date’s drinking and having your own back;
  • what alcohol actually does (and doesn’t do) for anxiety, confidence, attraction, and getting in the mood for physical intimacy;
  • the benefits of sober dating, even if it feels awkward at first.
