This is something my amazing trainer and mentor says all the time and every time I hear it, it still has the same impact.
Something that goes hand in hand with this is 'any situation is neutral until you give it meaning'.
I want you to think of receiving a text message from a close friend and all it say is 'I can't come anymore' you were meant to meet for coffee today, and honestly, you were looking forward to it all week and now all you get is this short message. Your thoughts go straight to: 'I'm already ready to go, what am I going to do now, this is what I was looking forward to all week'
In this sense, the thing you see is late notice for cancellation, a short message and now your missing out.
We have all been there at some stage yeah?
But what would happen if you changed that scenario a little. The way you say that text message changed. Your thoughts about that SAME text message? What if you changed your thoughts to not always be about you? To be about 'I wonder if everything is ok' 'Maybe I should call and ensure they are ok' – because what if the FACT of this scenario was that your friend was having a hard morning and couldn't cope that morning – hence the short text message.
When we change the way we see things the very things we see change.
