The countdown is on for the first Great Australian Charity Cattle Drive in Longreach.

The 85-day drive launches this Sunday, and the aim is to raise funds for the homeless and hungry in Queensland’s outback.

Yesterday, Sussan Ley was elected to replace Peter Dutton as the Liberal leader, and she will be joined by Deputy Ted O'Brien.

Deputy Liberal Leader Ted O'Brien told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, "Overall, the Australian people were disappointed with what we offered and therefore we need to meet them where they're at."

"I think Susan's leadership is going to be instrumental in this because she absolutely dismissed the whole categorisation of left and right yesterday."

A report has revealed that the Story Bridge is in disarray and a toll could soon be reintroduced to fund its restoration.

Brisbane City Council’s Labor Opposition Leader Jared Cassidy told Bill McDonald, "Obviously support the federal government and state government stepping in here to provide funding in a very immediate sense because it has to be done."

"This is now panic stations in saving the Story Bridge, but I really don't think council should be allowed to manage it."

"I don't think the Lord mayor should be allowed to touch this project going forward," Cassidy continued.

The in-fighting that follows the federal election result is set to be laid out on the table when the Nationals and Liberal Party both vote on their next leader this week.

Nine Radio Federal Politics Editor Michael Pachi told Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, "The National Party is going to choose their leadership team later this afternoon... and then tomorrow it's the Liberal Party's turn to choose their leadership team."

"There's been a bit of talk with what's going to happen with the Nationals. They're both Queenslanders, David Littleproud and Matt Canavan, who are both putting their hands up for the top job."

"I think that David Littleproud will get over the line," Pachi continued.
