It is Queensland Day, a celebration of 166 years since the state separated from NSW. 

To mark the occasion, five dedicated Queenslanders have been recognised as 'Local Legends' for their tireless work in their local communities. 

One recipient of the first-ever round of Local Legends awards is Martin Shaw, President of Wounded Heroes.

The Make-A-Wish foundation has granted the wishes of over 400 critically ill young Australians in the last 12 months, with more than 40 sports-related wishes granted.

The governing body of international swimming World Aquatics have announced today that  Aussie Olympic swimmers James Magnussen and Brett Hawk will face a life ban, due to involvement in the 'Enhanced Games.'

World Aquatics have also announced that individuals who support, endorse or participate in these sporting events will not be eligible to hold positions with World Aquatics or to participate in any World Aquatics competitions.”

Bill McDonald from 4BC Mornings has commented saying, “I think it's a juiced up joke that's called the enhanced games.”

“If they're willing to put on their superhuman Speedos in a splash for cash, then I think they've already turned their backs on the very principles that make sport worth watching."

British actor Kris Marshall is currently in Australia promoting the new season of the hit BBC series Beyond Paradise.

Best known for his portrayal of the wide-eyed Colin in the classic rom-com Love Actually, he's now returning to the role of Detective Inspector Humphrey Goodman, whom he first played on 'Death in Paradise' over 11 years ago.

Kris discussed the return with Bill McDonald on 4BC Mornings, saying, “I'm wearing the same brogues as I did ten years ago, so for me, you assume a character once you put on their shoes."

The Fair Work Commission has announced that the minimum wage will increase by 3.5% from 1 July. The current hourly minimum wage for adults over 21 will increase from $24.10 to $24.95.

Minister for Small and Family Business Steve Minnikin told Bill McDonald on 4CB Mornings, “Paying extra in wages is fine as long as there's a commensurate uplift in productivity."

"Everyone deserves to be paid well, but you've got to also make sure that the small business in particular has that profitability and that productivity to be able to afford those extra costs,” the Minister continued.
