  • 5B INTERVIEW_ BUSISIWE GUMEDE-CHIZHANJE CHATS KASI TO KASI (05 AUG 26)

This morning on 5 Breakfast, I’m joined by renowned journalist, producer and presenter Busisiwe Gumede-Chizhanje, the host of the new SABC 2 series Kasi To Kasi. Now, local government is one of those things we all talk about when something goes wrong — when the water is off, the lights are out, the roads are a mess, or nobody knows who is supposed to fix what. But Kasi To Kasi takes that conversation out of the complaint section and into real communities, showing how municipalities shape everyday life in South Africa.

The series looks at authentic community voices, real municipal projects, responsible citizenship, public participation and what best-practice service delivery can actually look like when municipalities, communities and stakeholders work together. It runs for 26 weeks and visits municipalities including Emfuleni, Rustenburg, Emalahleni, Moses Kotane and Govan Mbeki.

  • 5B NEW MUSIC INTERVIEW_ CRAIG LUCAS

Craig Lucas is back with “Joyride”, his first release of 2026, and this one feels like a proper shift in energy. After years of trying to figure out where he fits in the South African music landscape, Craig says he’s reached a point where he’s less obsessed with the destination and more interested in enjoying the ride. The song is warm, nostalgic, simple on purpose, and built around this idea of freedom; not necessarily forever love, but the kind of right-now feeling where you stop overthinking long enough to actually feel something.

So in this first part of the conversation, I want to get into the emotional engine of the song: the freedom, the vulnerability, the pop energy, and what it means to show up as you are; not as the perfect version of yourself, and still ask someone to come along for the ride.

  • 5B I BET YOU CAN'T FIND SOMEONE WHO HAS EXPERIENCED RACISM IN SCHOOL SPORT

After recent allegations of racism and violence at South African school sporting events, Nick Hamman asks listeners whether they have experienced racism while participating in school sport. Listeners share personal stories from rugby, cricket, hockey and other school activities, reflecting on how these experiences shaped them and whether enough is being done to address discrimination in youth sport.
