There are things that we struggle with daily. It’s an everyday process to tear down the bad habits or break free of addictions. We cast down imaginations and thoughts daily to fight the good fight. If we are in the Word of God daily we will start to see these strongholds come down, as we know Him and walk in His will.

Jesus uses the word “one” in this portion of scripture 5 times. This is His last prayer before going to the cross. He’s stressing the importance of unity both in the body of Christ and man's relationship with God. The oneness we have as a couple reflects the unity that Christ has with the church, and so we must be reflecting that model in our marriage as we are yoked together with Christ.

Agape love is a giving kind of love. It’s clearly not a barter system where you only give as much as you get. Jesus illustrated this kind of love when He died on the cross. He loved us while we were yet sinners. As He gives love to us, we in turn are to give love to others.

In this episode we talk about going the extra mile for your spouse. We talk about being yoked together with Christ--in lockstep with Him and with each other. 

There are times when we’re lonely, days we feel empty, seasons in which we need to be reminded that God is with us and that He is our strength. And so there are times when we do have companions, but there are also days when that solitude is a necessary part of spending time alone with our God.

It’s easy to slip into a fault-finding habit as we point a finger at others instead of ourselves. We need to practice letting go of the small things, while we accept that fact that we’re different. Look inward, examine ourselves, and be willing to change when we must.

What kind of an example are we to our kids? To others? We’re here to be salt and light in this world, and it must start at home. We must be in unity if we hope to represent the relationship between Christ and the church.

The process of the Christian life is repentance. Day by day, we’re laying down our old lives and walking in the newness of the Spirit. As we’re transformed, our desires grow increasingly honorable. Temptations diminish with growth and resistance. A desire to serve God increases. We won’t change overnight, but we will see a progression as we immerse ourselves in God’s Word.

In Revelation 2, John writes, “Nevertheless I have this against you, that you have left your first love.” He is referring to scripture here. The testimony that Christ gave to the apostles and what the apostles gave to us. If we are basing our faith off of anything outside of Bible we are in danger of veering off one way or another and losing our understanding of what it means to be a believer.

When you look back on the years, you’ll notice the seasons you have gone through together. It’s wonderful knowing that you have a partner to travel the years with, and even more wonderful to have a God who will carry you through.
