Churches should be places of safety. In some cases, they are but in many cases - where domestic violence is prevalent - the victims get neglected.
Domestic abusers hide in churces - often in leadership. They put on an act for those watching. Instead of working on themselves, they work on their image. They fool many third parties with a 'nice' public persona, but show their true selves t side behind closed doors.
Unfortunately, when victims turn to their churches for help often they are told to be 'good-strong' Christians and deal with the behavior. Many times the victim is tasked with 'changing' the abuser with love and holiness. Sadly, many church leaders don't know that they are feeding into an abusers need to control and manipulate.
