This youth month, we're trying tying to figure out where the minds of young adults in South Africa are when it comes to their love lives. We call it the Love-ish series here on Live At Night, and on this episode we’re talking marriage, how does the youth see marriage, what’s marriage like for those Young Adults who are married? Smash was joined by Louis, who joined us last week when we talked commitment, Ru and Malebo with opposing views on marriage also joined in.

African musical giant - Thandiswa Mazwai or "King Tha" as many of you refer to her - is set to bring the Africa Month celebrations to an end with a virtual concert commemorating Africa Day this Saturday on May 30th. The "Play Your Part Africa" virtual concert will be paying tribute to Africans united in the fight against the ongoing COVID-19 outbreak, while celebrating the milestones the continent has achieved. She joined Smash Afrika earlier to chat about her music and the entertainment industry in the middle of a pandemic.

To celebrate our beautiful continent on this day, Smash had a conversation talking about one of Africa’s biggest exports – Afro beats. The musical genre Afro beat originated in the 1960s and 1970s as a blend of traditional Yoruba music with jazz, West African highlife and funk. The pioneering style of afrobeat is identified with artists like the formidable Nigerian icon Fela Kuti. Now, Afro beat and Afro beats are not the same thing, and there’s a difference. Smash was joined by two people who helped him navigate through this conversation – mix DJ and In The Mix resident Kat Upendi & as well as Nigerian musician Wurld.

With social distancing measures in place, many organisations have had to explore what the digital world can offer their business, and the world of theatre has also taken that route, with the South African State Theatre bringing their shows online for audiences to enjoy in the comfort and safety of their homes, Smash spoke to The South African State Theatre’s Artistic Director, Mr Aubrey Sekhabi.
