The detailed overview of the Jerusalem wall being built in Nehemiah 3 is more than just a list of names and jobs. It's a story of how God works through His people and how He still works today in the same way.

Nehemiah shows us how to find resolve in the face of brokenness and opposition. Before leading revival, he quietly prepared and trusted God to rebuild what was ruined. When challenges came, his confidence wasn’t in human power but in the God who rules over all. We can find that same resolve by trusting the One who has already proven His love through Jesus.

What God has stirred in Nehemiah's heart now moves him to take his first action.

September 21, 2025 - Nehemiah 1:4-11.

Today we look at what Nehemiah's first response is when he encounters crisis. As a great leader you might think it would be strategy but instead it's prayer. We explore how prayer grounds us in God, why it must come before our activity for Him, and how Nehemiah's prayer gives us a blueprint for our own.

Nehemiah starts with an ordinary man living an ordinary life and a simple question about how his people are doing leads to devastating news: God’s people are vulnerable, God’s city lies in ruins. In turn, Nehemiah’s heart is broken.

But instead of becoming cynical or critical, Nehemiah turns to God. He weeps, he mourns, he fasts, and he prays. His disruption becomes an awakening—a moment where God shakes him in order to shape him.

From Nehemiah’s story, we learn how God often uses what disrupts us to awaken us.
