In Episode 12, I share my 5 step system to follow your intuition. We live and operate in a very linear world based on logic and structure. Our career paths, in particular, tend to be based on logical hoops, often financially motivated, that we jump through in order to advance to the next level. In our home lives, we have adopted structured roles and habits which follow certain patterns of behavior often based on what we had growing up. We often don’t question these structures because they’ve been in existence for so long.
I believe that we are all given a very powerful intuition. But we are walking around like we have headphones blaring loud music in our ears so we ignore it. We don’t give ourselves the opportunities to be quiet for long enough to listen to and to trust our intuition. For me, my intuition is rooted in my faith. You can think of your intuition as whatever is in line with your belief system: gut instinct, a knowing, a whisper, God, spirit...or whatever it is that brings you in touch with your inner voice. Glennon Doyle, author of “Untamed,” (highly recommend reading this book!) refers to her intuition as “a knowing”. We have gotten lost in the ways of the world (particularly during corona chaos!) and have strayed far, far away at times from our intuition. Getting back in touch with your intuition is a powerful tool to help guide you to your next right step in your life.
The 5 steps for following your intuition are (1) quiet yourself, (2) listen, (3) do not seek any advice, (4) trust what you learn, and (5) take one small step.
In this episode, I share 2 stories to make these points come to life. I first share how I failed to follow my intuition by turning my back on the practice of yoga for more than 13 years. I share in the second story how I trusted my intuition after an incident working at a big law firm - a decision that saved me from a life of continued exhaustion and misalignment in my life priorities.
