5 Stress Management Tips
#1 Undisturbed Focus time
- Schedule undisturbed focus time in your calendar
- Set your Teams/Slack status on do-not-disturb
- Commit to actually working on your operational tasks at that time
- Extra tip for my Entrepreneurs
- Add alarms on your phone for each meeting of the day
- 15 min prior to Zoom Calls
- 30/60 min prior to in-person (fun/business) meetings
#2 Plan your meals
- When I know I have a stressful week ahead, I like to pre-plan my lunches
- It’s a 15-minute planning effort but saves me so much headspace I need for other things during the week
- What planning my meals is doing is: it reduces the decisions I need to make on that day
- Making decisions is taking mental effort
#3 Do something about it
- One (ideally) physical action to SNAP out of this mental and physical state
- Low key RESETS activities
- A little dance break
- Go for a lunch walk
- Take a 3-minute break when you think "I can't take a break right now"
- Pro tip: Combine these RESET actions with errands/household things that would stress you out even more
- Intense RESET activities
- Going for a 10-minute power run during your lunch break or when you finish work
- Doing a short workout/yoga session for stress relief
- Having a cold shower
#4 Kill the monster first
- Here we go, tip number 4: Kill the monster first
- Or if you're familiar with this productivity technique, it’s called “eating the frog”
- Basically this means:
- Tackling the most important/nastiest task straight in the morning
- Hand on your heart, this is the thing you will probably be thinking about non-stop throughout your whole day - anyway
- So, do it at once and kill this big stressor
#5 Take ownership of your workplace
- I take a lot of energy from my surroundings but at the same time my surroundings can take energy from me
- So having a messy workplace full of junk, scraps of paper, and messy notes takes energy like crazy
- Make it pretty to look at, so your first association is not something negative
- Make it cozy, make it inviting, make it clean, and organized, so your thoughts can be clean and organized
