What if the life you’ve built no longer fits the person you’re becoming? Wendy welcomes Nicole Porter, founder of Your Parent Porter, for a raw conversation about grief, inherited beliefs, and the courage to start over at 47.
On the eve of donating her furniture and hitting the road with her dogs, Nicole shares the experiences that brought her to this turning point—from exhausting career detours to losing her parents and questioning what she wanted her own life to look like. Together, they explore the difference between feeling safe and feeling stuck, the family messages that keep us playing small, and why reinvention doesn’t require having every next step figured out.
Nicole also explains how her experience navigating family loss inspired her work helping adult children prepare for their parents’ aging - and why those uncomfortable conversations matter before a crisis hits.
An emotional, unfiltered episode about making room for a new chapter, choosing freedom, and deciding that “someday” starts now.

Dating after 50 can feel like learning a whole new language. Wendy welcomes confidence therapist and dating strategist Kimmy Seltzer for a frank, funny conversation about finding connection in your second act.
Kimmy explains why first dates can start to feel like job interviews, how old relationship patterns follow us into new ones, and why waiting until you feel completely “ready” can keep you from meeting anyone. She and Wendy talk dating apps, flirting in everyday life, showing up with confidence, and the small steps that make putting yourself out there less intimidating.
If your dating life is full of “yeah, buts,” this episode is your invitation to try something different.

Who says passion has an expiration date?
On this delightfully unfiltered episode of 50 Is a Mindf*ck, Wendy welcomes Diane Marie Carty, host of The Golden Sex Podcast, to share the unexpected love story that completely reignited her life. After nearly 15 years of celibacy, Diane met Dennis—an energetic, adventurous 83-year-old—at a wedding. One spontaneous kiss led to extraordinary chemistry, a whirlwind romance, incredible travels, and a sex life neither of them saw coming.
Diane opens up about dating with a 16-year age difference, rediscovering her sexuality, embracing toys without shame, navigating non-exclusivity, and deciding whether an undeniable connection is worth choosing completely. She and Wendy also discuss “widow’s fire,” sexual health, honest communication, confidence, and why intimacy can become even more fulfilling as we age.
Funny, candid, and very spicy, this conversation shatters the myth that people simply fade away after 60. Diane’s message is unmistakable: your best years—and possibly your best sex—may still be waiting for you.

At 60, Mike and Christine thought love was behind them. Both had made peace with being alone. Then a date almost didn't happen. Christine nearly said no.
What started as friendship turned into something neither of them expected. A shared love for cats, a mutual pull toward hiking and adventure, and the way Mike showed up for Christine's son all became part of a connection that grew into real love.
In this episode, they share how a second chance found them when they least expected it, what changed their minds about giving up, and why age has nothing to do with whether you get to have this kind of connection.
If you've ever thought love over 50 was a long shot, this conversation is proof it's not. Don't give up hope.

By 50, you've probably tried it all — and now peptides are the thing everyone's asking about. In this episode, Ciara Curry gives it to you straight: are peptides actually the magic bullet for midlife energy, muscle loss, recovery, and hormone shifts, or is it just the next wellness trend? She breaks down who's actually a good candidate for peptide therapy at this stage of life, who should steer clear (and why age, medications, and existing health conditions matter more here than at 25), and the red flags to watch for — from unregulated "research peptide" sellers to providers who skip labs and just hand you a prescription. If you're navigating perimenopause, menopause, andropause, or just want to feel like yourself again, this is the honest, doctor-guided conversation you need before you try anything.
In this episode:
What peptides can realistically do for you after 50
Who's a good candidate — and who isn't
Red flags: unregulated sellers, no bloodwork, no provider follow-up
Why "doctor-guided" isn't optional at this age
Questions to ask before you start any protocol

What if the key to a sharper brain, faster healing, and slowing down aging was... oxygen? In this episode, I sit down with Mike Factor, Certified Brain Health Coach, to break down the science behind hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) — the pressurized chamber treatment once reserved for divers and elite athletes that's now going mainstream.

For years, anxiety dictated my daughter Talia's life.
Panic disorder. Agoraphobia. Days when getting out of bed felt impossible. Intensive Outpatient treatment at The Meadows. Countless setbacks. And slowly... healing.
In this episode of **50 Is a Mindf*ck**, Talia shares what it's really like to live with severe anxiety—not from the outside looking in, but from the inside. As her mom, I also share what it was like to watch someone you love struggle while learning that you can't heal them... you can only walk beside them.
This isn't a story about an overnight transformation. It's about six years of showing up, doing the work, accepting help, and learning to live life one day at a time.
If you or someone you love is navigating anxiety, panic disorder, or agoraphobia, we hope this conversation reminds you that healing isn't always linear—but it is possible.
In this episode we discuss:
* Living with panic disorder and agoraphobia
* The impact anxiety has on families
* Talia's experience with intensive outpatient treatment at The Meadows
* The small victories that eventually become big ones
* Why healing happens one day at a time
* Hope for anyone still in the middle of the struggle

When my friend Brian shared that both his mother and his mother-in-law entered memory care at nearly the same time, it stopped me in my tracks. Caring for one aging parent is hard enough. Two at once? That’s a boulder most families never see coming.
In this episode, Brian opens up about how this major life transition has impacted not only his life, but his wife’s, their marriage, and their entire family. We talk about the emotional toll of watching parents change before your eyes, the unexpected challenges of memory care, the difficult decisions families face, and the very real financial burden that comes with it all.
This is an honest conversation about aging, caregiving, grief, responsibility, and navigating one of life’s most difficult chapters when it arrives from both sides of the family at the same time.
One aging parent can change your life. Two can change everything.

What happens when you stop seeing yourself only as “Mom”… and start seeing yourself through your adult daughters’ eyes?
In this episode, my daughters ask me the tough questions.
The kind that make you reflect on the choices you made, the mistakes you didn’t realize your kids noticed, the lessons you hope they carry forward, and the parts of yourself you may have lost — or finally found — along the way.
We talk honestly about motherhood, people-pleasing, independence, aging, relationships, emotional survival, and what it’s like when your children become old enough to see you not as a perfect parent… but as a complicated human being.
Some questions made me proud.
Some made me uncomfortable.
Some made me realize how differently our children experience us than we experience ourselves.
And honestly?
That’s what made this conversation matter.

My friend Johnny said to me once… ‘If you think it’s hard to be over 50, try being gay and over 50. It’s brutal.’”
In this deeply honest episode, Johnny Pfeiffer opens up about aging, identity, loss, body image, and what it felt like to suddenly re-enter the dating world after losing his longtime partner to cancer.
Johnny hadn’t dated since he was 19 years old. After becoming widowed, he found himself navigating grief while also confronting the intense pressure surrounding youth, appearance, desirability, and relevance inside the gay community — and honestly, in society as a whole.
From 360 lipo and hair transplants to emotional healing and self-discovery, Johnny shares how the journey unexpectedly came full circle… realizing that after all the rebuilding, reinventing, and trying to become “better,” he was actually pretty great exactly as he was all along.
This conversation is raw, funny, vulnerable, uncomfortable, and incredibly human.
Whether you’re gay, straight, partnered, divorced, widowed, or simply trying to figure out who you are in this chapter of life — this episode will probably hit somewhere deep.

What happens when you hit 50 and you realize that no one's really talking about the things that we're actually going through?
Welcome to 50 Is A Mindfuck. The good, the bad,…
When I started this social media journey at 50, there were really no people my age showing up online. At least not talking about the real stuff, at the same time, I was going through one of the hardest seasons of my life, which was losing my dad. I needed somewhere to put that grief and creativity, the grief, the confusion, the identity shift, the questions that just didn't have clean answers anywhere I was searching. I couldn't even Google these things back then. So I started talking. This show talks about everything that comes with this stage of life, the parts we don't always say out loud, aging, loss, relationships, reinvention, and even figuring out who you are when the roles you've carried start to change.
I'm Wendy Ortiz. I've built a life, a business, a family,, and now I'm in the phase of asking deeper questions. I know I'm not the only one. That's the beauty of this.
Each week, we have a real honest conversation with the kind of people that make you feel seen and maybe even a little uncomfortable, but also not alone. If you're over 50 or even just starting to feel that shift, this is for you because this phase, you guys, it's not just about getting older, it's about finally speaking our truth.
