I used to think that self-care was getting the coffee I wanted on the way home from a busy day of volunteering and then I expanded my thought pattern to believing it was a bubble bath with a book and a scented candle and no interruptions. But my nervous system needed something more from me and the trauma work I was doing with a specialized psychodynamic therapist taught me that self-care was a much deeper actioning belief system then I had ever been exposed to before. Self care not only included my thought processes and small kindnesses that I allowed myself. Dismantling the guilt, shame, fear that surrounds self-care for recovering codependent people is key to creating the ability to prioritize you in your own life in a loving and healthy way. Self-care is ensuring that your basic needs are prioritized in your daily life. Things like eating right and getting enough rest, going to the doctor and treating illnesses and injuries. Ensuring that you surround yourself with people who respect you, prioritize you, see you and honor you. It is setting boundaries and ensuring that you are putting you first in the life that you are living in more ways then scented candles and favorite coffee choices. Self-care is how your subconscious thinks and talks to your conscious self, it's your accountability to your role in your life and choosing to step into a place of healing your trauma wounds. You are worthy of self-care that is deeper than top level crystals and affirmations, I'm talking the type of self care that is like a lightning bolt straight to your brilliantly shining soul that begins to create earthquakes from within that allow you to freely be who you are meant to be.
Enjoy this coaching episode that is going to challenge you into stepping forward and building the self-loving care around you by prioritizing you and getting real about your needs.
