Kristian and Cindy chat about the stories behind the songs, and what happens when studio players create something fantastic and change a song forever.

Songwriter Bobby Pinson, who co-wrote this week’s songs “Gasoline” and “Want To” with Kristian, is the songwriter who made Sugarland decide if their songs were going to go THERE. And “Want To” is the song that forced the decision.

Kristian and Bobby wrote the songs in the same room years apart. Kristian and Cindy discuss the stories behind the songs, and Kristian shares how “Want To” is pulled directly from his high school experience.

Sometimes there’s a heartsick truth that lives cloaked in a buoyant exterior. “Heart of Yours” and “Stuck Like Glue” are the sonic personification of wearing your happy face when your soul bleeds. Kristian and Cindy talk about the circumstances that led to these songs, and Kristian shares his therapist’s rules for pursuing love following his divorce.

Songwriter extraordinaire JT Harding is the glue that binds the podcast this week. JT has written hits for Kenny Chesney, Blake Shelton, Keith Urban and more. He’s also one of Kristian’s favorite co-writers. On episode seven of 52-The Podcast, Kristian and Cindy explore two of the songs that JT and Kristian wrote together – “I’m With You” and “Dashboard Hula Girl.”

“He has this attitude of gratitude,” Kristian says of JT. “It’s contagious, and I’m like the happiest bouncing ball you know.”
