Anna Tukuitonga is a young student and aspiring country musician who lives in the Waikato region. Her mother is Niuean from the villages of Alofi and Tuapa and her father is Niuean/Fijian with ties to the Lau Group in Fiji.

Anna is a student at Hauraki Plains College and the winner of this year’s Waikato Smokefree Tangata Beats competition.  As part of her prize she won a package from the Rockshop and went into the selection pool for the event’s live national final.

As a tribute to her late grandfather Buasala Yabaki and her Fijian heritage Anna decided to sing her pap's favourite song "Isa Lei"

Surf Life Saving New Zealand (SLSNZ) is calling on Hollywood heavyweight Dwayne Johnson (aka “The Rock”) to talk to Kiwi men about beach safety.

The cry for help comes as figures reveal an alarming 89% of beach and coastal drowning victims in Aotearoa/New Zealand over the last 10 years were male.

Genevieve Jiva is from Suva, Fiji and is the coordinator for the Pacific Islands Climate Action Network (PICAN), the Pacific regional node of CAN International. 

She has been a member of PICAN since 2015, participating in their activities and advocating for stronger action on climate change. 

She is a volunteer with the World Wildlife Fund Pacific Volunteers Program and has participated in Peace Boat’s Ocean and Climate Youth Ambassador Program.

Poet, writer, researcher and musician Darren Kamali was born in Fiji.   Darren is of Fijian, Uvean, Futunan and Scottish heritage.  

He is the author of the trilogy of poetry books.  Darren has a Pan Pacific approach to writing and performance that reflects his multi-cultural background and upbringing in Fiji and Aotearoa NZ. Before earning a BA at Manukau Institute of Technology, Kamali worked in youth arts programming as a mentor. In 2008, with Grace Taylor and Ramon Narayan, he founded the South Auckland Poets Collective, a youth program dedicated to poetry as an agent of social change.  He is a former Fulbright Creative NZ Pacific Writer at the University of Hawaii in Manoa and has held residences at the University of Iowa as part of its International Writing Program.

Sai Lealea is the Chairperson of the National and Wellington Fijian Language Week Komiti. He was a member of the Arts Council of New Zealand and chaired the Pacific Arts Committee. He has been Chair of the Pasifika Education Centre in Auckland and the Pacific Advisory Group of Wellington City Council.  

Sai was a Trustee of Arts Access Aotearoa and has provided support to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade and other government Pacific advisory groups.
