Michael Field is a veteran journalist who has spent much of his career in the South Pacific as a newspaper and agency reporter for more than thirty years.   His books have included Speight of Violence (Fiji's 2000 coup) and Swimming with Sharks, a collection of tales of the Pacific, The Catch on the scandal of the global and NZ fishing fleets, and of course the book Mau - Samoa’s struggle for freedom.  Michael is on the line to talk about the controversy with governance of the University of the South Pacific (USP)

Hima Ikimotu Douglas is the the new Speaker of the Niue Legislative Assembly.

The 17th Niue Legislative Assembly met for the first time yesterday where the 20 members were sworn in before they proceeded to elect the Speaker of the House and Premier of Niue. 

Hon Hima Douglas is a veteran journalist, editor of Tala Niue, former Niue High Commissioner, former member of Niue Legislative Assembly and now the new speaker of the Niue Assembly.

Oscar Kightley, will front the first-ever Pacific focused sport show on New Zealand television.

The show, Pacific Brothers, produced by Kava Bowl Media in conjunction with SKY TV, looks to take a deeper dive into the Pacific world of both past and present athletes across the globe.

After playing Tane Samuels nephew of fan favourite TK Samuels on Shortland Street in 2007, Dominic Ona-Ariki took a break from screen acting. He'd previously had another lead role as the time-travelling Fred on sci-fi series P.E.T. Detectives. From 2016 he became a regular on New Zealand screens he acted on Filthy Rich, and played All Black Eric Rush on mini-series Jonah. He now has taken the lead role in local detective drama One Lane Bridge as a detective with spiritual gifts.

Professor Alec Ekeroma has been a leader in Pacific people’s health for more than 20 years and has been active in the development of medical services in primary health care for Pacific women.

Professor Ekeroma played a leading role in initiating the Pacific Society for Reproductive Health, a not-for-profit organisation founded in 2001, of which he is the current CEO. It is now the foremost organisation for the professional development of doctors, nurses and midwives in the Pacific region. He has produced 51 academic publications, primarily focusing on the health of Pacific women and health capacity building in the Pacific region. He founded the Pacific Journal of Reproductive Health in 2015 and is Chief Editor.

He was on the Board of Well Pacific Mother and Infant Services from 2010 to 2012, Ta Pacifica Primary Health Organisation from 2006 to 2012, and Southseas Healthcare Trust from 2004 to 2008. He has been a member of the Royal Australia New Zealand College of Obstetrics and Gynaecology since 2002, including as the Chairman of the New Zealand branch from 2006 to 2007. He served on the National Perinatal and Maternal Mortality Review Committee from 2010 to 2014. Professor Ekeroma has supported hundreds of medical students and trainees in obstetrics and gynaecology since 1998.

Aiono Professor Alec Ekeroma is the Vice Chancellor of the National University of Samoa.

Tania Sharkey is a lawyer who practices in Manukau, South Auckland and is the President of the Pacific Lawyers Association.  She specialises in Family law, and in particular, the area of care and protection for our children and young people.

This year Tania was appointed by the Solicitor-General as Lead Counsel Assisting for the Pacific Investigation in the Royal Commission of Inquiry: Abuse in Care.

She is here on behalf of the Royal Commission to talk to us about the Inquiry, the Pacific investigation and how it affects our people.
