540-POCKET: Conformal Bioelectronics for Whole-Organ Therapy

Listen Later

This research introduces POCKET, a novel bioelectronic patch designed for the high-precision delivery of therapeutics directly into internal organs. Utilizing a flexible kirigami-structured design, the device achieves superior conformality, allowing it to wrap seamlessly around organs with complex or irregular shapes. The patch utilizes wireless powering to facilitate electro-transfection, a method that effectively delivers genetic material or drugs while avoiding the harmful side effects of systemic circulation. Experimental results show that the device can successfully restore ovarian health and fertility in genetic models of disease and provide long-term protection against renal injury. Ultimately, this technology offers a versatile and minimally invasive platform for regenerative medicine and localized gene therapy.
