She Doesn't Settle

55: Why “Follow Your Passion” Isn’t Always the Answer with Amy Rowland

Listen Later

My very special guest on the podcast today is Amy Rowland, host of the ‘Fashionably Late’ podcast, and founder of Varia Search, a boutique legal recruiting firm that fills legal department roles, from general counsel to paralegal. The road that Amy took to her current positions is an incredibly interesting and inspiring one that I can’t wait for you to hear. She is truly a badass whose pursuit of her passion in life didn’t exactly work out the way she hoped, and today she describes the pivoting she did to find happiness, and the remarkable success that she has achieved as a result.

Throughout our conversation, Amy details her history from her start in following her passion for playing tennis, through her pivot to coaching and teaching, her subsequent pivot to becoming a lawyer, and her most recent decision to start her own recruiting business. Along the way, she offers her sage advice for listeners, explores the potential for fear of transition or failure, and shares the biggest hurdle she faces, what motivates her, and the importance of balance in life. Amy Rowland, as you will discover today, is a living testament to the power of not settling, someone who understands that what you end up doing in life can become your passion, and I know that you will be as excited and inspired as I was when you listen to her incredible story here today.

Speaking of passion and inspiration, this episode finds us in the aftermath of the election won by Joe Biden and Kamala Harris, and I found so much to admire in the words they shared after their victory, particularly Kamala’s call to ‘dream with ambition, lead with conviction’. That’s precisely what we do here at She Doesn’t Settle, and what you will experience fully in my two new exciting initiatives. So, just to remind you, on November 18 at 4:00 p.m. PST, I’m hosting a free workshop called ‘Discover Your Unedited Desires’, where, in community with other amazing folks just like you, we’ll discover what you really want, especially as we head into a new year. Be sure to check out that link below as well, and mark your calendar for this important and ultimately rewarding event.
