In this episode of the Playful Connection Podcast, Eddie Shin will share four simple and practical ways on how to choose appropriate rewards while building stronger connections with the children and teens in your life.
1. Make Rewards Personal and Meaningful
2. Focus on Experiences Over Material Rewards
3. Use Surprise and Spontaneity Occasionally
4. Encourage Intrinsic Motivation Alongside Rewards
Choosing appropriate rewards is like watering a plant. If you overwater, the roots don’t grow strong because they become dependent on constant nourishment. If you underwater, the plant struggles to thrive. But when you provide just the right amount of water—thoughtfully and at the right times—the plant grows deep roots, stands tall, and flourishes on its own. Similarly, when rewards are chosen wisely, children and teens develop confidence, resilience, and a sense of fulfillment while also strengthening their bond with you.
