We are in for the second heat wave of the summer. The national Weather Service says we could see high humidity and temperatures hovering around the 100 degree mark. This heat wave may be a different than the last as it isn’t expected to last more than a few days..
Monkey Pox has arrived in the mid state. Bucknell University has confirmed its first case of the disease. The Daily item reports the school sent out a college wide email alert yesterday. The infected individual is isolating off campus and university officials are closely monitoring the current global outbreak. Pennsylvania has reported 161 cases of the outbreak.
Penn State University is changing its guidelines for Covid quarantine. This fall, the school announced they will greatly reduce its on campus quarantine and isolation spaces for students and continue recommending, but not requiring Covid Vaccinations and masking while indoors. Classes start at Penn State in three weeks
The so called pill mill doctor will be in court again today. Dr. Raymond Kraynack of Mount Carmel wants to withdraw his guilty plea to charges of illegal dispensing of prescription drugs. Authorities allege he prescribed more than 6 million opioids over a five year period.
Two men are charged for their part in the escape at the Lycoming County pre release center. 48 year old Todd Hill illegally walked out of the facility and jumped into a car operated by 50 year old June Gasper of Williamsport. Mark Tanner recruited Gasper and was in the front seat when they picked up Hill, Both Tanner and Gasper are charged with hindering apprehension and assisting in the escape.
You will be able to vote by mail in November at least for now . The state Supreme court has upheld the wide expansion of mail in voting and determined the constitutional provision means the General Assembly can prescribe any process by which electors may vote.
If you take the Pennsylvania turnpike be prepared for yet another toll increase. The turnpike commission reminded drivers beginning in 2023 the tolls will jump five percent and it takes effect January 8th and applies to all EZ Pass and Toll by plate customers.
