If you have one of the larger cell carriers, you probably have been receiving emails and notifications about "3G Shutting Down Soon."
What does that mean for you and is it really going to happen?
Welcome to episode 36 of the 5G Guys! In today's episode, we are going to answer those questions and more. The shutdown of 3G networks in the United States is indeed happening and has been going on for the most part of this year. So far, it has had a number of impacts on both individuals and businesses.
One of the most significant impacts has been on individuals who still rely on 3G devices, such as older smartphones. With 3G networks being shut down, these devices are no longer able to connect to the internet or make phone calls.
This has left many people without access to essential communication tools which could cause a number of problems and safety issues for those who live in more rural areas where 4G or 5G coverage may not be available.
Outside of just phone calls and connecting with loved ones, the 3G shutdown could affect numerous other sectors of society such as connected devices, security systems, smart features in cars, e-readers older than 10 years old and so much more.
During our conversation, we will give you a list of devices you should double-check, how to help the older generation get ready for 5G, why you shouldn't be concerned about losing a 3G connection, and more.
PS:
If this is the first time you've heard about this, there is a good chance that your carrier will not be affected by the 3G shutdown. Also, help us spread the word! Share this episode with someone who may need to check their devices before it's too late.

In 2022 when you read the news or hear about the latest technological innovations, it can start to seem like we can't go any higher as a human race…
However, when we study history and look back at the greatest moments of breakthroughs and inventions that changed the world, we'll notice one profound thing. Humans always find a way to reach higher, dream bigger, and solve problems faster and more efficiently than the previous generations.
5G and the quest to keep the world more connected in a digital world is no different. Today on the show we interviewed someone who proves this idea and shares how new and creative solutions are coming into the marketplace you may have never seen before.
Welcome back to the 5G Guys! Hit play to meet Marty Moran, the owner of Plum Laboratories. During our conversation, you'll hear all about their innovative solutions called Plum Cases. These compact suitcase-contained devices help extend cellular service to uncovered areas.
These powerful little cases have the power to turn even the most rural of places into a connectivity hub with cellular, wifi, and even IP calls. It doesn't take long to connect the dots and start to see the bigger picture about why this technology could have a lot of important applications.
When disaster strikes such as a hurricane, first responders, disaster management, and other critical members of disaster relief efforts all need cellular signals. Even the smallest boost of signal could be what dictates a moment of life and death.
That's not including the countless individuals who need to connect with their friends and loved ones in such a scenario. The use case for the Plum Case doesn't stop there, you'll also hear how they are adding value and solving problems for the HealthCare industry, increasing continuity for businesses and so much more! Inflation is affecting everyone from the top down. Even the big tech companies who are in charge of rolling out 5G technology and new telecommunications infrastructure…but it begs the question: what's the damage?
Welcome back to another episode of the 5G guys! In a previous conversation, we covered all the industry updates and project timelines that shifted over the months in 2021. At the end of our time together Wayne brought up the topic of inflation and how it is affecting the industry. It is such a broad topic that we decided it would be better to take a whole episode to do a deep dive.
Hit play to learn how inflation is affecting everything from supply chains, labor cost, supply and material cost, carrier costs, government costs, and everything in between! Even if you have been in this industry since the beginning, no one has ever seen so many complex problems all pile up at once.
We'll even cover a few problems most people aren't talking about that the pandemic created and how no one could have planned for these issues. Even though the past several years have not gone according to plan, that doesn't mean everything is all going downhill…
Be sure to listen to the end to hear our positive take on the matter and how we think several of these "obstacles" will actually lead to a stronger foundation and more sustainable solutions for 5G and connectivity around the world.

It's a fact, fiber keeps things running smoothly…no, not that kind of fiber.
Today we are talking about fiber networks! 4G and 5G connection and technology are heavily dependent on fiber networks. Wireless services can't deliver blazing speeds and responsiveness without the larger network interconnection provided by fiber service to cell sites.
Plus with the need for faster speeds and more demand for connectivity with every passing day, now more than ever, different companies and various forms of technology are being leveraged to work together like never before.
On today's episode, we sat down with Brian Daniels from Zayo, the managing director of strategic Sales where he leads a team of their experts focused on fiber services. This is no small task! After Zayo opened in 2007, they acquired 40+ other fiber companies and now have a network that is being used as a foundation for technology deployments all over the US.
The largest and most innovative companies rely on fiber infrastructure, high-speed, dedicated wavelength connectivity, and colocation at the network edge. These networks have Global and low latency networks, eRate, and mobile infrastructure, which includes the foundation for 5G.
Hit play to hear how Brian oversees strategy, operations, product development, implementation, and real estate options for the company! This fascinating conversation will give you a unique perspective on how the world of Fiber and 5G come together and where the biggest room for growth is in the industry.
You'll also hear Brian's predictions for the future of this technology, how you can start capitalizing on a faster network, the turnkey limitations (including RF design) and so much more!
