She met him online and reportedly married him in Vegas.  Now, prosecutors say she stabbed him to death in his home and vanished for 9 months.  While police searched for her across multiple states, someone mailed his sons letters signed in lipstick.  One of them said, "I'll be back."

He lived next door to the house Nathan Gemeinhart was getting ready to sell. On an August morning in 2022, the 42-year-old husband and father of four left for work and never made it to his daughter's kindergarten meet-the-teacher day.

His car turned up a block away. His body, found inside a burning house.  The head and hands removed. 

It took four years, a rejected plea agreement and testimony from more than a dozen witnesses for a Jefferson County jury to reach a verdict.

She was already out on bond, charged with kidnapping a four-day old baby in Birmingham, Alabama. Police say she did it again, this time with two sisters in Atlanta.

A mother leaves her two young daughters with a woman she met in an online group for new moms. By Monday, FBI agents are tracking a cellphone to a locked tow trailer in Atlanta with no air conditioning and no way out. A cell phone ping leads a search party to a stretch of I-20 in Greene County and to the discovery that turns a missing persons case into a murder charge.

Twenty-three-year-old Karen Deann Hollis vanished from Northport on May 8, 2026. Eight days later, a cell signal ping sends searchers driving up and down Interstate 20 for five hours until they spot a black garbage bag in the tall grass near Knoxville.

"If I get out, I'm not coming back."

That's what prosecutors say a Cullman, Alabama spa owner told someone on a recorded jail call. Whitney Cheatham ran a wellness spa in Cullman until police say they traced a string of forged prescriptions back to her business. She's now facing twenty charges, including drug trafficking counts. 

This summer, her attorneys asked a judge to let her leave the state for a "professional development summit." Prosecutors say the letter was generated by AI, and that the real plan had nothing to do with a summit at all.

A Cullman County attorney is accused of trying to poison her husband with fentanyl, twice. The second time, she was already out on bond for attempted murder for reportedly putting fentanyl in her husband's food three times.  When it came time for a judge to decide if her bond should be revoked, her husband took the stand and asked to let her go. This week, host Jenn Horton, a WBRC Investigative Reporter, breaks down the evidence and court records involving one of the most unusual bond hearings we've seen in years.

A dog comes home with something in her mouth. Not a stick. Not a ball. A human skull.

For more than a year, Chicarin, a German Shepherd mix in Center Point, Alabama kept bringing bones home. A skull. A tibia. Long bones left as gifts in the front yard. Investigators put GPS trackers on the neighborhood dogs. The Jefferson County Coroner ran DNA. Slowly, piece by piece, a picture emerged.

The bones belonged to Curtis Taylor Jr., a 25-year-old legally blind man who vanished from his family's home in February 2024. His family filed a missing persons report. Searches turned up nothing. Then a dog found what investigators couldn't.

He'd been shot. His death: ruled a homicide. His killer: still unknown.

A man was dropped off at DCH Regional Medical Center in Tuscaloosa. He asked to be taken there. He wanted and needed help.  But Matthew Taylor never walked through the door. Hours later a 27-year-old nurse, wife and young mother named Ada Doss was walking through the parking lot at shift change when she crossed paths with Taylor, who police say gunned her down outside her car.

Taylor was quickly arrested.  Inside the jail, his behavior became so alarming a judge ordered Taylor medicated against his will.

A deadly crash on a rural Alabama road kills a father and a two-year-old girl. The mother is airlifted in critical condition.  Then a family member from out of town asks a question no one can answer: where is the baby?  The couple had a one-year-old son that no one had seen for three months.  

What followed was one of the most disturbing cases Fayette County Sheriff Byron Yerby says he's encountered in 32 years of law enforcement. Court records detail a months-long pattern of child abuse documented in disturbing pictures and text messages between the parents.
