6. Setting the stage: Discrimination STILL happens in our AF
“The Air Force is Inclusive & Diverse … What Say the Airmen?”
**I will preface EVERY conversation with “Nothing is pre-decisional, every case and situation has its own unique circumstances and the Air Force has published and clearly communicated its position on inclusion and diversity.”** Of course, the Air Force’s senior leaders and the vast majority of the Air Force’s Airmen truly understand that it is imperative that we must continue to build and maintain a culture that promotes inclusion and diversity; however, it is naïve to believe that EVERY Airmen feels / acts this way. If it were truly believed and acted upon, then we would not have Airmen being treated any differently or assessed on anything other than their performance! We undoubtedly have Airmen that are discriminated against among our ranks, and it MUST STOP. We MUST treat each other with dignity and respect…all humans deserve that and we (as Airmen) will ensure that happens! Real Talk with Caleb: The Podcast series will cover Inclusion and Diversity Among the Air Force Ranks … What Say the Airmen? · Episode 1 (Tentative release of 8 May) | Introduction: Overarching thoughts and “setting the stage”. · Episode 2 (Tentative release of 15 May) |Subject Matter Experts: Special guest: Jessica Blace from the Defense Equal Opportunity Management Institute and Maritza Mueller the USAFE-AFAFRICA Equal Opportunity Functional Manager and Integrated Resilience Division CEM. · Episode 3 (Tentative release of 22 May) | “The Warriors”: We will have 4-6 special guest that will share their stories with us, which will highlight how Airmen in the field feel about inclusion and diversity. · Episode 4 (Tentative release of 29 May) | “The Warriors” Return: We will have our 4-6 special guest return and answer questions from the field / audience regarding the warrior’s stories and how they persevered…then they will provide closing comments / advice / inspiration for change! · Episode 5+ (Tentative release of 5 Jun) What Legendary Leaders Do: We will be taking more comments from the field / audience and discussing how real leaders, legendary leaders lead through these situations to create a safe & inclusive environment in their organizations.
