The American Dream has always been about making your way to the top with hard work and dedication. In the 1950's the idea of the American Dream turned into a status trap based on the things you owned, the size of your home, the type of car you drove, and your marital status. This led us into a society focus mostly on consumerism and in 2008 we saw just how bad getting trapped in the goal of reaching "status" could get.
