Janet stopped drinking during the first lockdown of 2020. She was always been a big (BIG) drinker and never saw it as a problem. Yes, she’d regularly be hungover and tired, but that was just what everyone did, right?
The big change for her came when her husband was diagnosed with a brain tumor in 2018. She was devastated and we didn't know how long he would live. He's doing really well having had 2 major operations and radiotherapy. At the time though, Janet’s reality was that she would lose him and be left to raise 3 children alone.
Her drinking became very dark and she was undoubtedly drinking to numb the pain and to forget. She was deliberately reaching blackout. Her children started to notice and became the catalyst for Janet’s transformation.
Coming out of her journey is Choose Sunrise, a UK based organization on a mission to eliminate the stigma surrounding asking for help with alcohol use. Janet is bringing her message into the workplace, helping employers to reduce absence, improve productivity and help their employees make positive choices for their health and wellbeing by creating an alcohol safe workplace - without killing the buzz.
