64: Understanding and Responding to the Capitol Coup

Listen Later

While I had intended to share with you an interview with yet another incredible guest this week, I feel it’s important to address the run on the Capitol last Wednesday. Instead of having the opportunity to celebrate the historic Senate race victories in Georgia, our country and our world were instead horrified to witness another historic and overwhelmingly surreal event, an attempted coup on our Capitol. Despite much of the rhetoric that has been expressed in the aftermath of this shit show, I have to tell you that, sadly, this really is who we are as Americans. Today I want to share with you some thoughts and a lot of resources to help you gain a greater understanding of just how we got here, and inspire you to begin the work to become agents of change.

I’ll begin by reviewing the coup attempt, how it was instigated, and the difference between it and the Black Lives Matter protests from last summer. The heart of this episode, though, will be a vast array of resources, broken down by courses, books and articles, and others, which will provide you with information and perspective that will ultimately help you figure out how best to show up in these troubled times. There are a lot of them, so, as always, if you need any support in accessing them or have any questions about them, please know that I am very familiar with them all, and am here to help in any way I can. This is a topic that is far too important and pervasive to ignore, so let’s dig in today, educate ourselves, and move forward together.

Remember that I’m opening up a new cohort for my 9 month Ascend Mastermind that will start in February! You’ll get to strengthen your habits, get clear on what you want and be held accountable by, and find support among like-minded women as you ascend.
