While so many are hitting the ‘pandemic wall’ these days, I want to bring you all some joy today by sharing my interview with just an amazing individual who I met a few years ago, and whose beliefs and approach so closely align with my own. Sara Dean, creator and host of the Shameless Mom Academy Podcast, has a passion for helping women own their space, and is on a mission to inspire women, and moms in particular, to live bigger, bolder, and braver everyday. Through her various platforms, Sara motivates and inspires women to stop shrinking and start shining in every aspect of their lives (sound familiar?), and today she joins me to talk about her remarkable life and work.
She starts by updating us on how she is doing these days, and then relates the story of her journey through her businesses to where she is now, and what she will be carrying forward into this new year. Along the way, she discusses how her core values and her goals in helping women have shaped and shifted her business, the impact of women leaving the workforce during the pandemic and her hope for them to start their own businesses, and the struggles she finds most common among her clients. We’ll also explore the most significant steps she took in taking up space, how she has changed over the years, and our Enneagram results and the role they can play in our lives. I know that you will agree with me that Sara Dean is one freaking awesome badass who is paving her own way and doing amazing things to help women to really find their power – precisely what we all need as we put 2020 behind us and move through this ‘ultramarathon’ together.
It’s still not too late to join our 30-Day Gratitude Challenge at my Goal-Getter's Club. Even though we’ve passed the January 1, 2021, start date, you are more than welcome to join at any time during the month – you’ll be glad you did!
The Finer Details of This Episode:
Quotes:
“There’s a future for all of us – we can do this!”
“Then I became, like, this accidental entrepreneur.”
“Oh, crap! I built a business that is no longer in alignment with my core values.”
“I decided to start, kind of, reframing how I sold these programs…I took out any messaging about shrinking your body.”
“If we move in alignment with our values and our beliefs and who we are, typically, we’re confronted with the hardest decisions.”
“If you are a mom, like, you could negotiate a Middle Eastern Peace Treaty in your sleep if you have, like, a two-year-old and a five-year-old, because that’s all you do all day.”
“Women tend to, just automatically, take on all the extra, and there’s a lot of extra right now…a need comes in and we just add it to the plate.”
“I do think we’re going to see a huge surge in women starting their own businesses.”
“There’s just a different level of awareness and conscientiousness that women bring to the table, and moms especially bring to the table.”
“You’re actually doing harm by not going all in on this…get over yourself and grow the thing.
“It’s like being invited into someone else’s living room.”
“Part of growing a team is finding people who have strengths that are different than yours.”
“I feel like 2020 has proven over and over again the things that we can do that we think we can’t do.”
“I want to be one of those people that kept going, and even though it was ugly and imperfect and it made less money…I want to be in that camp just to prove that I can do it.”
“Now I kind of think about it as an ultramarathon.”
“Be the person who gives yourself permission to get back up.”
