Someone has snuck up on the party and they react quickly. Thankfully, Vae recognizes her old associate Scarecrow (played by Benjamin Drury of Lawful Great Adventures) before he is killed. Kai was forced to flee the Federation after attempting to investigate the creation of the Ashenguard, a curiosity sparked by the sight of Anima soon after her arrival. Since then, he has been in hiding on Euria 7. He caught the signal the party was chasing and snuck up on them to figure out what they were doing. They explain some of the situation and convince him to help them find the Basilisk.
