663: Lesley Jane Seymour, Founder of Covey Club and Former Editor-in-Chief of 'More' Magazine, Tells How to Reinvent for Your Second Act

Listen Later

Lesley Jane Seymour is a legendary magazine editor, who has been editor-in-chief of some of the most well-known women's magazines in the world, including Redbook, Marie Claire and most recently More magazine. Full stop. And when More magazine closed up shop and folded in 2016, Lesley opened herself up to what might be next after a long, successful career in media -- an industry that was constantly changing.

Enter CoveyClub, of which Lesley is the founder. CoveyClub was created when hundreds of Lesely's loyal readers approached her on her personal social media channels, asking her to create something new for them. 627 followers took a 54-question survey that allowed Lesley to create a roadmap to the CoveyClub offerings.

CoveyClub is described as a virtual and IRL (in real life) club platform built by — and for — members and has generosity and "welcomeness" at its heart. All members believe that the more you give, the more you get. Hence the CoveyClub hashtag: #LearnGetConnect.

On this episode of the Support is Sexy podcast, Lesley shares what it's been like to go from longtime employee to entrepreneur, how entrepreneurship pushes you to confront your vulnerabilities, why she was uncomfortable -- at first -- accepting support and what you need to do to reinvent for your next act.
