Dan Mann is a surfer, shaper, craftsman and head of Research and Design for Firewire Surfboards. Over the last 25 years of building custom surfboards, Dan has shaped and glassed boards for legendary surf brands such as Channel Islands, Rusty, Xanadu and Joel Tudor. Driven by progression, Dan’s journey as a craftsman has led to the development of a close relationship with Kelly Slater in which they collaborate on many of the boards Kelly rides in the WSL tour events. One of their latest creations being the FRK. Like many surfers, I’ve followed Dan’s work from afar and any time I see him in the media or video clips, his laid-back, California surf stoke beams…with a hint of mad surfboard shaper genius. In this week's episode, Dan is with me from his home in San Clemente to share his journey, experiences, challenges and hopes for the future.
