Hello Mindful Soul,
Knowing when we need to respect ourselves and establish a healthy boundary is a positive step to maintaining respectful relationships, but often asserting the boundary can make us feel unnecessarily guilty, especially when the other person is not pleased.
Of course it’s important to communicate a boundary with kindness when possible, but if it’s not, being direct and firm without feeling the need for explanation can be best. You may even need to establish a boundary by walking away completely and that can be very hard to do. (*This is not intended as advice if you find yourself in an abusive relationship. Please reach out to your local agency if this is the case).
As always, if you have the time, take a few minutes to write in your journal about whatever may have come up today. It’s a wonderful way to explore your thoughts and feelings and cultivate self-awareness.
