75 | Especially Enneagram Series: Special Needs Parenting as an Enneagram 5

We are continuing on with our Especially Enneagram Series and moving to the Head (or Fear) Triad with Enneagram 5 special needs parents.

While I don't have an interview to share with a specific Enneagram 5 special needs parent, I do have some information from the several that I interviewed which has allowed me to take you inside the minds of Type 5s, the Observers, or Investigators, as they manage the complexities of raising special needs children. I explore their driving fears of depletion and their relentless pursuit of understanding their children's unique needs. These parents, often valuing knowledge above all else, find themselves battling between remaining neutral and engaging emotionally.

The journey of an Enneagram 5 parent is riddled with challenges, especially when emotions don't come naturally. This episode examines how their preference for logic over feelings sometimes makes them feel disconnected from the warmth required in advocacy roles. Yet, their deep dives into gathering information enable them to become formidable advocates in education and healthcare. Admittedly, sensory overload is a real struggle, and finding ways to recharge is vital. We discuss the importance of acknowledging fears, embracing the need for help, and how these steps contribute to their growth as both individuals and parents.

Hey! Are you a parent of a loved one with a disability? Have you ever wanted to be on a podcast? Then I want to hear from you! Literally! Send me an audio message that I can include in an upcoming special episode.

Just click here to be directed to a website where you can record your response to the following question:

If you could go back in time to when your child was first diagnosed with a disability, what would you tell yourself?

I would LOVE to hear from you!!

And finally, if you have been wondering how long you need to keep certain documents, whether its a utility bill, and IEP, medical records, or an insurance policy, I have a quick and accessible one-page document for you to download that shares exactly how long you should be holding on to these items and when you can let them go (e.g. shred and/or recycle.)

Click here to get on my email list and I will send this handy doc straight to your inbox.

And I promise I won't start bombarding your inbox with emails -- that is not my style! I just want to be able to stay in touch and keep you informed occasionally of resources to help you reclaim whatever it is YOU need!
