A statement from Rachael:

"A few years ago, I started a collection of poems that were love letters to people and things in my life. When quarantine began and separation was vital, negativity and loneliness overwhelmed so many of us. I wrote this poem in April as a reminder to myself and to others that we are all still connected and loved and together in some way, and that is something to be grateful for. Since I wrote this poem, the country and the world have been fighting for black and trans lives among others. It is more important than ever to defend and advocate for everyone's right to be treated fairly and to be loved. I believe this time of great change and turmoil will lead to a more equitable world if we are willing to put in the work and care."
