After a tumultuous start, several members of Washington's hardcore punk scene joined forces following the dissolution of their previous bands. Despite their hardcore roots, however, the band frequently experimented with diverse sounds and textures.

This is especially prevalent on their sophomore album. In true DIY fashion, they also handled its production and packaging.
