BJ Killeen – Automotive Journalist and Voice of Reason brings us news about the Biden administration tightening the noose around automaker’s necks. There is a new set of EPA Emissions standards that will force the automakers to make 67% of electric light-duty vehicles and 46% of medium-duty electric vehicles by 2032. They hope to ban gasoline engines and force people to buy electric vehicles. People can barely afford to buy cars now, it will only get worse. Electric Company says this is unrealistic due to a lack of infrastructure. BJ says you need to speak to your local representatives to stop the government from getting rid of gas engines. Up next is Brian Moody – Executive Editor of Auto Trader.com and KBB.com. He shares that the Chevrolet Camaro will be going away. GM’s last model will be released in 2024. It’s just not selling. Alan inquired if GM will still be responsible for replacement parts. Yes, they are obligated to continue to make parts for discontinued vehicles until the majority of their warranties for that particular car have expired. Before Brian takes his leave, he touches on the situation with the EPA Emissions. Reducing tailpipe emissions is the goal, however, it’s forcing the automakers to make more EVs. Which is why SEMA, is so important. They are the voices of the car enthusiast’s world. Brian says’s on the flip side of this, it keeps it sourced here in America. Lauren Fix, Editor-In-Chief for Car Coach Reports.com shares how the government’s ultimate goal is to make it illegal to drive a gas-powered vehicle. She says she speaks the truth when she recommends not buying an electric vehicle. Switching subjects, she informs us that it’s the 75th Anniversary for Jaguar, as the last of the F Type R75 gasoline-powered, V8 convertible sports car will be made. She won’t be surprised if they come back with an all electric version. As the evolution of cars continue, a new feature for automaker’s to continue to make money off of you, is after you have purchased your vehicle and or leased it, there will be subscriptions to use certain elements in your car. For example, BMW has a subscription for seat warmers. If you want to warm up, you have to pay and be a subscriber. Closing the show today is George Kennedy III – Co-founder of Cartender.com, and the Vice President of the New England Motor Press Association. He contributes to U.S. News & World Report, CarGurus, Forbes Wheels, and here on The Drive. He announces that the V6 echo diesel for Wrangler is no more, and how the 4XE is the best selling plug-in hybrid in America and will be the next sensible option. Switching gears, George shares a few tidbits of the New York Auto Show. Very impressed with the Genesis GV80 Coupe (concept) car. Though it doesn’t fit into the category of a coupe for George, he still feels it’s a sharp-looking vehicle. He was there for the impressive unveiling of the Lamborghini Revuelto Hybrid v12 super car. Join us for the next episode BJ Killeen, Karl Brauer, Lauren Fix and Brian Moody bring us more of what’s hot and what’s not in this ever evolving auto world.
