#77 – Should Change Be Incremental - or All-at-once?

It's a question that comes up often in the field of addiction. Cold turkey or gradual reduction?

In many ways, this question represents a false choice. All-at-once changes, can only be maintained through a series of related and often smaller choices that sustain our health. Few of us can kick a decades-long porn habit without also deciding to connect more with others socially to regulate ourselves emotionally. Such social connection requires an incremental shift from our inward world of addiction to an outward looking integration with the rest of the world. An incremental shift that often goes unnoticed with a cold turkey pronouncement to never view porn again.
