7.8 Passion, Empathy and Burnout in Lactation Support

Listen Later

The need for support, and the impact of stress on those providing support for breastfeeding mothers led Professor Amy Brown to explore the wellbeing of lactation support workers, prior and during the Covid-19 lockdown. In this presentation, Amy will share the complex picture that emerged, and what the implications are for breastfeeding women, their families and their supporters.

Hosted by: Sue Macdonald, Midwifery Expert, Mayes Midwifery

Biographies Professor Amy Brown A psychologist by background, I now work in public health research specialising in research exploring early experiences of parenthood with a focus on infant feeding, mental health and normal baby behaviour. I have published widely across these topics with my research helping to inform policy and practice in the UK and internationally.  I have a particular interest in public engagement and making sure our research findings are relevant, understood and shared in an engaging way so that they can reach new parents and those who support them. I have worked closely with policy makers, public health bodies and charities around the world to ensure this happens.
