8 lessons from 8 years in business

This podcast goes out on Monday, September 14th 2020. On the same exact day eight years ago in 2012 I started Trevor Lee Media. The timing was precise because when I left Northcliffe Media on the previous Friday I had completed 29 years exactly with them.
So what I learnt in those 8 years?
Here are 8 of the things I have learnt which I hope will be useful for you:

  1. Think bigger than you actually are and always have a business plan regardless of the size of your business
  2. Always be ready to pivot your offering and let your customers do this for you
  3. Network - people buy from people to getting known is really important
  4. Turn yourself into a media company, again regardless of how big you are, so have an active up-to-date website, use video viral YouTube channel, write articles and comment, in the B2B sector be active on LinkedIn and maybe have a podcast
  5. The curious – get into more conversations and when you do ask really good questions
  6. Give before you take – advice, ideas and time
  7. Bring energy to your customers – particularly if you are a consultant, coach, trainer, advisor etc...
  8. Have fun and enjoy what you do because that will encourage your customers to enjoy working with you, and if they enjoy working with you they will want to continue to work with you
