High school education to be free next year

The government plans to make all high school education free by 2017 as pledged by President Park Geun-hye on the campaign trail， but the biggest hurdle remains how to appropriate the mammoth budget for the plan. Cheong Wa Dae， the ruling Saenuri Party and the Education Ministry agreed to gradually increase the number of high schools providing free education from next year.

정부가， 선거유세 기간에 박근혜 대통령이 공약한 대로 2017년 고등학교 무상교육을 실시할 계획이지만 고교무상교육을 위한 막대한 예산 충당 방안이 가장 큰 장애물로 남아있다. 청와대와 집권 새누리당， 교과부는 화요일， 내년부터 무상교육을 제공하는 고등학교 수를 점차 늘리는데 합의했다.

이는 입학금과 수업료， 교과서 구입비 지원을 통해 2014년부터 25%씩 무상교육을 확대한다는 박 대통령의 공약에 따른 것이다. 또한 이 3자 기구는 현행 2년 요건을 줄여， 학교 계약직원들이 1년 이상 근무한 뒤 정규직이 될 수 있도록 하는데 합의했다.
