The 3rd Annual Honolulu CANstruction Design/Build Competition was held on Saturday, August 23 from 8:00am – 2:00 pm at Pearlridge Mall, Uptown. This was an exciting six-hour competition led by AIA Architects, design professionals and engineers. Five-member teams erected giant, carefully designed structures that were built entirely out of canned food to fit within a “footprint” of eight feet by eight feet, and as tall as eight feet. As they were being built you could see each structure taking on a form and design of its own. The canned food being used for the build as well as the canned food that will be used to cast votes, will benefit the Hawaii Foodbank.

Barack Obama has a big fan base in Hawaii and he should have considering he was born in the Aloha State. He also amazingly has a large following in Japan in at least one city that shares the same name; Obama, Japan. For those who have not had the pleasure of checking out the Hawaii Souljah, Joshua Alo, you just missed your chance in Hawaii as his last performance concluded this past Friday as he sets sight for Europe. A give away of the “Lil’ Aloha Babies Waves ‘n Wonders” DVD by Local Girl Productions is announced, new music from Alison Chu off her newest CD “Kuhio Bay” is featured in todays show and the first mention of Podcamp Hawaii is also discussed with more to follow. In Waikiki at the corner of Kapahulu and Kalakaua, extends this beautiful jetty simply called “The Waikiki Wall.” It’s a favorite local spot that’s been around for decades and is popular for boogie boarders and the occasional jump off the wall. On July 4th we spent our day hanging out in Waikiki soaking up the sun and catching some of the latest action at the wall. While this is a beautiful place to enjoy some fun in the sun and a splash in the water, we CAUTION you that it is very DANGEROUS to jump off the wall and to boogie board here due to the shallow waters that surround the wall. In fact if you do take a visit to the wall, you’ll notice how the more knowledgeable locals wait for a wave to come in before jumping off the wall.

Despite the dangers it is still one of the best places around for some genuine ocean fun, so be sure and pay it a visit!
