81. Caregiving and Drinking to Manage Stress

Listen Later

Teresa was a family caregiver, who went through various stages of  caregiving with her beautiful mother-in-law, including having her in their family home and then transitioning to senior living.  Each came  with it's own stressors and challenges.

After 17 years of sobriety, Teresa found it easy to decompress by  frequently drinking a couple of glasses of wine.  Alcohol was a way to  connect with quickly feeling better.

As the stress of caregiving evolved, so did the drinking habit, until  one day on August 30th, she decided it was time for a massive change and  took action.

This is a raw conversation about her journey, to take control of her  drinking habit, which quite frankly mirrors my own habit in many many ways. (I even  did a breathalyzer once before driving to the gym to go 'work it off').

Here are the books she read on why and how to stop drinking that helped  her on her journey to being sober again.

1) This Naked Mind, by Annie Grace

2) Alcohol Lied to Me, by Craig Beck
